Meet the Next Florida Prepaid Kid!
Kaylin Truba has been talking to her daughter Lillian about college since she was six months old. Friends often teased Kaylin that she was a bit premature, but Kaylin wanted to instill in her daughter the importance of education.
Kaylin is a materials engineer for a parachute company in DeLand who studied at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of North Florida. She has always wanted Lillian to attend college without the stress of student loans and debt.
“I acquired a house of debt in college,” says Truba, who is raising Lillian, 4, as a single mother. “My student loans really stress me out sometimes, and if she never has to experience the stress of a student loan, that would make everything hard about being a parent enough — to know she doesn’t have to struggle like that.”

Kaylin got her wish this month, when she learned that Lillian won a 4-Year University Plan scholarship through Florida Prepaid’s recent Next Florida Prepaid Kid contest. It was a welcome gift for this working mom, who has been investing in early education by enrolling Lillian in a Montessori program in Deland, FL.
“I see the difference in my daughter and other girls her age who aren’t in Montessori. She is so articulate and astute because she has such an educated childhood, and I want to keep that going on,” says Kaylin. “I always wanted to start saving for college, but as a single parent I wasn’t so sure I would be able to put the money aside every month after Montessori.”
Kaylin says she is so relieved to know that Lillian’s Florida university tuition will be covered when the time comes for her to step onto the campus of her choice.
And what does Lillian think of all this?
“I don’t think she understands the magnitude yet. But hey, she is just 4!”
